What's good for the goose is good for the Michigander

I've been away from my home state of Michigan for some time now (it was six years in August!), and during that time I've realized that I miss something a lot since I've been there. No, I'm talking about family or friends (although if forced to admit it, I would).

I'm taking about Michigan-made products, or products sold there but not in VA or DC.

This Christmas I considered telling people who were buying gifts for me to get my Michigan products, but I chose not too. See, I'll be back in the Great Lakes State for about 10 days, during which time I'm sure I'll come across these products.

But seriously, you know what would hit the spot? Some Kellogg's Corn Flakes for breakfast. How about some Better Made potato chips or Archway cookies for a snack? Man, I loved those things. I could wash it down with a nice crisp pop - perhaps a Vernors or Faygo (my favorite was Rock & Rye), or maybe even some Old Orchard apple juice.. Man, that sounds good. If I wanted a healthier alternative, I could always grab some Michigan Cherries or Apples. Or, I could enjoy some of those Michigan cherries on some ice cream, hopefully with some Sander's Hot Fudge Sauce on it. I could probably just run up the street from my parent's house and grab some from the local Meijer. Of course, if I was in the mood for something more substantial, I could go across the street from Oakland University and get some of the best pizza in Detroit at Buddy's Pizza, or make myself a meal with some "Kowality" Kowalski sausage.

After my pizza, I could hop in my car, and cruise down Woodward Avenue, perhaps on my way to The Somerset Collection? Or maybe I was taking my brother to his hockey practice out in Plymouth, where he plays for the Compuware Ambassadors program. If so, we could watch the Plymouth Whalers play over there at Compuware Arena. Those were the days.

If we ever wanted to go on a trip, we could head up to "Michigan's Little Bavaria" or even all the way up to Mackinac Island. In Frankenmuth, we could head over to Zehnder's for a scrumptious chicken dinner, and then we could celebrate Christmas (at any time of the year), by heading over to Bronner's Christmas Wonderland. In Mackinac, I would most certainly want to partake in some Mackinac Island Fudge.

I certainly miss my home state. I'm pretty sure I'll move back someday, maybe when the economy has rebounded. Because, as everyone who lives there knows, Michigan is Amazing.
